Optical illusions

Sometimes I wonder if people pay too much attention to appearances. I think it's a genetic shortcut programmed into the living things of the world. Sometimes I despise it. Sometimes I don't. It makes life easier if we can just judge by appearances.

But sometimes, it just isn't fair. Especially if you turn out to be what is cruelly pointed out to the rest of the population, as a genetic mess. This holds the most truth in the categories of reputations and looks.

Now the dilemna is deciding which is worse. To have a bad reputation or to be ugly. After all you can change the way you look, not when you are young but perhaps even when you are older and able to go under the knife. Even height can be achieved (yes, my short person insecurity kicking in again.) through hormonal injections and steel plates (and broken bones) if you want to. After all, you have heard that it is worse to be ugly than to be fat, no?

A bad reputation can be forgiven if the said person is attractive enough. But what constitutes a bad reputation? Because of what some mean spirited people decide to announce to all and sundry?

Argh. This topic makes my blood boil. Money doesn't make the world go round. Gossip does. It swivels the one dimensional social circle around until it becomes an optical illusion of a sphere.
